Blog Post #6~ Character Archetypes

The book I am currently is Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The character that I think has the best characteristics of a character archetype is Hagrid. He serves the role of the herald in this book.
Hagrid serves the role of the herald because he is the one who comes and introduces Harry to the fact that his parents were wizards, and that he is also a wizard who saved all of the wizard world, when he was only a little baby.
A quote that I believe proves that Hagrid is a herald is, "Harry - yer a wizard." This quote shows the characteristics of the herald because he is introducing Harry to the idea that he is a wizard, since he had no clue. He also shows and tells Harry all about his parents and the place wehre is is actually from. Hagrid explains Hogwarts and how he has a reserved spot -since he saved all of Britain, including the muggles, at Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft And Wizardry. For these reasons, I believe that Hagrid is the herald in this novel.

Blog Post #5 ~ Populatiry.

When I hear the word classic, I think of something/someone who has been around for a long time, but is never too old to become popular. For example, all  ancient myths are classics. They have been around for such a long time but throughout generations, they have been passed down and told differently between religions and families and such.
The definition of classic may be 'serving as a standard, or model, or guide'  (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/classic). I think that this may be a definition of classic because like I said before, mythology has been around for a long time, but it keeps getting modified between generations. Another example of a definition of classic is 'of literary or historically renown' (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/classic) . The 'Titanic' is an example of something that is historically renown in a way. It happened in 1912, but was made into a movie by someone's story. These are two definitions of classic.

The book I am currently reading is, 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone'. This book is definitely a classic! It relates to both of the definitions I told before. It has many characteristics that make it a classic as well. It if a classic because it has many different types of mythologies within the stories. It has also been made into a series of movies.

Future generations of students should read this book because it has sold so many copies of the whole series and the movies have been so successful. Since each family retells mythology in their own way, people who read this series will have a different perspective on different mythologies other than what they know about different cultures.
